Birth Story

On February 8, 2010 I went to the hospital at 5:00pm to get a gel inserted to start dilating, but before that was done they had to get an IV put in and that was painful it took 4 tries to get the needle in when an anesthesiolgist had to give me a local and put the needle in. Due to my husband being on dialysis at night he had to go home and hook up and my mom stayed with me in the hospital. The dr had left orders to start the pitocin at 3:00am and she would be back in the morning to break my water. My Dr got there about 7:30-8:00am checked me only 1 cm and she broke my water and the contractions started getting worse, when they broke my water they found out he had a bowel movement while inside me. About this time my husband came back to the hospital. I don't like pain at all so at 9:00 I asked for the epideral. My Dr. came back around noon and checked me again still only 1 cm and she told the nurses they could up my pitocin some more. She came back at 3pm and I was still 1 cm and she told me the pitocin was starting not to work anymore my contractions started getting further apart and they had given me 1 1/2 times more pitocin than they normally do. She told me whatever I want to do was fine with her, she could tell I was getting upset and said she would come back in a couple hours. She came back at 5:00pm and still only 1 cm so I talked to my husband and mom and we decided to go ahead and do a c-section. Apparently my body didn't want to let him go and I was afraid that if I progressed anymore my body would be too tired and shut down and a c-section would have to be done. So about 7:00pm we went in and had the surgery and Russell was born at 7:31pm 8lb 4oz and 21 inches. That was the one of the happiest days of my life and I will never forget it.
